About the Item

Custom-made one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from a rare vintage silk Jacqmar fashion scarf depicting an elaborate floral mosaic pattern. In a rich color palate of bronze and antique golds featuring exquisite pink and lavender rose blooms. The silk is thick and deliciously soft to the touch with a subtle sheen. Founded by Joe Lyons (nicknamed Jack) and his wife Mary, the couple felt that J H Lyons did not sound swish enough so they frenchified a mash-up of their first names and came up with the bizarrely spelled Jacqmar. By the mid-century, it was the most dominant scarf company in Britain and was noted for its patriotic scarves illustrating aspects of wartime including those exchanged between wartime sweethearts. It was a high-end brand worn by debutantes and socialites, advertised in high fashion magazines such as Vogue, and has examples of their headscarves in the V&A's collections. Such was it’s popularity at the time that Jacamar scarves were even mentioned by literary authors at the time; Agatha Christie in ‘Cat Among the Pigeons’ and also poet Sir John Betjeman in ‘A Few Late Chrysanthemums’. A very pretty and unusual piece would go wonderfully with traditional furniture and dark wood or a country style interior. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of the natural bamboo wading, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the west intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful dabbled effect. A contemporary cushion (pillow) constructed with antique elements by using fragments of precious fabric. Handmade in Ireland. By designer-maker Katie Larmour for KL Design Ireland Studio.
