Beshir rugs are woven by the Beshir tribe of Turkmenistan in Central Asia. They are best known for their distinctive weaving style, in a region where most rugs produced by their neighbouring tribes can be recognised by their so-called elephant foot pattern and deep blues and reds.
This 19th-century example features a pomegranate blossom motif, inspired by earlier weavings of the 18th Century, symbolising prosperity, longevity and fertility, with a muted aubergine grey field and a variety of earthy, vegetable-dyed colours in its design. Its weaving has a precision and clarity uncommon in carpets of its type - truly a carpet of one-of-a-kind craftsmanship and artistry.

Produced more easily than woven textiles and with incredible insulating properties, felt was vital for the construction of yurts and life on the harsh steppe. In the Kyrgyz tradition, felt pieces composed of sewn and backed reciprocal designs are known as ‘shyrdak’. 19th C. Suzani Bukhara Uzbekistan Antique Embroidered Islamic Art Textile Susani

Fabulous antique 19th C. Suzani from Bukhara Uzbekistan embroidered with swaying floral branches and flowers.
Museum quality collectible antique hand embroidered Islamic Art textile called Susani or Suzani.
Very fine art work embroidered with silk thread in many shades of green were used (sacred color in Islam it is the color of Paradise), and shades of pink from light pink to red to fuchsia. The yarns are organic vegetable dyed.
The piece was made in different pieces that were put together.
This antique Islamic folk art piece was embroidered in the city of Bokhara, on the Silk Road.
The uses are limitless however, they are often used as wall hangings, table covers, sofa cover throw, bed spreads and upholstery fabric.
A similar Susani is on display at the Museum of Islamic Art in Shangri LA Doris Duke Home is Hawai.
