Persian 1940s Gabbeh Tribal Rug, Multicolored Squares, 3' x 6'

About the Item

This one-of-a-kind 1940 Gabbeh rug consists of a handspun wool warp and weft as well as a hand-knotted pure handspun wool pile. The design is improvisational and exudes a contemporary feel for a Gabbeh of this period. The pile consists of both undyed wools showing the natural cream, gray, brown and taupe colors of the sheep, as well as vegetable-dyed wools in shades of orange, copper, blue, purple and green. This combination of dyed and undyed wools lends to this carpet's soft yet bright and beautiful look. It is a great example of a unique geometric design from the Gabbeh region of Iran, and it is in excellent vintage condition. The size is 3' x 5'9", making it a versatile work of art suitable as a floor covering or a wall hanging piece. Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.
