1960's Swedish flatweave

About the Item

1960’s Swedish Flatweave 2.08 x 1.43m Handwoven. Geometric grey mottled tones with red background. In lovely original condition with minor detail to fringe. Halv-flossa or relief-flossa—translated half pile or relief pile— is the name for a kind of distinctive Swedish carpet, which seems to have been remarkably durable over the course of the 20th century. There are distinctive variations on this form by a variety of talented Swedish designers including Signe Asplund, Märta Måås Fjetterstrom, Elsa Gullberg, Sigvard Bernadotte, Barbro Nilsson, Ingrid Hellman-Knafve, Ingrid Calrkson and Margareta Lundahl. Both light colours and white pile on white flat-weave were among its earliest iterations, but the use of coloured pile or coloured flat-weave sections–or both of these combined– rapidly became more common.
