Fine Antique Rare Senneh Large Rug

About the Item

The fine rugs of Senneh prominently represent the most luxurious weavings of the Qajar era. These are almost invariably woven in small formats, which is what makes this charming room size example particularly rare and unusual. Here a large hexagonal medallion and pendants motif floats on a rust red open field cartouche, this being overlaid onto a dark blue background. The floral cartouche and rosette border is characteristic of the finest Senneh weavings, which are sometimes on a silk foundation. The wonderful palette of this example encompasses a range of warm and well patinated tonalities, all of which contribute in distinguishing this prestigious family of rugs.
