Outstanding Antique Tabriz Hadji Jalili Workshop Rug in Butterscotch and Teal

About the Item

Very rarely can one ascribe a carpet to the near mythical Hadji Jalili workshop with a relative degree of certainty, especially as these were never signed or embellished by any sort of inscription. The signature style lies however in the highly refined palette consisting of a characteristic off white background punctuated by touches of light butterscotch and teal blue. The use of a symmetrical knot, typical of the rugs of Azerbaijan, allows for the botanical pattern to assume a certain degree of stylisation, resulting in a very refined composition that is perfectly balanced between the floral and the geometric. The extremely fine quality of weaving as well as the use of a lustrous, silky pile renders it among the most elegant manifestations of the antique carpet tradition of Azerbaijan.
