Antique Bokhara Suzani Rug, 19th Century

About the Item

Antique Bokhara Suzani Rug, 19th Century Woven in the vicinity of the ancient Central Asian city of Bukhara this Suzani is densely decorated with a magical and organic array of blossoms and tendrils embroidered in vivid silk floss. A veritable garden of fantastic and varied flower-heads sprout across the field in full bloom from a network of vegetal tendrils and leaves drawn in several shades of green. In classic form, fully formed flowers swirl throughout the border. A single floral burst situated at the center of the top border is drawn in profile adding to the directionality of the composition and pleasantly obscuring the boundaries between border and field.
