Khotan Samarkand Rug
About the Item
Khotan rugs were originally produced in East Turkestan and are interchangeably referred to as Samarkand rugs due to their close proximity to the cultural city center of the same name. Khotan rugs are distinguished by their geometric patterns ranging from soft pastels to bold color palettes. These rugs are considered to be one of the most decorative rugs in today's market. This runner is hand knotted in Pakistan using the same materials and techniques as those native to East Turkestan.

These exotic oriental carpets from Kashgar, Yarkand and Khotan in the Chinese occupied Autonomous Region of Sikiang are collectively known as Samarkands. Typically, they are in a long and relatively narrow format with simplistic spacious designs rendered in a glossy wool, occasionally embellished with richly brocaded silk and metal-thread.
