Although Samarkand means “Stone Fort”, the harsh name definitely does not reflect the upmost craftsmanship and mesmerizingly beautiful creations which come from this Central Asian town. The modern Samarkand runner before your eyes embodies the Bohemian spirit and unique, multicultural style of Samarkand floor coverings, owed to the fact the weaving center used to be located at the famous Silk Route joining China with Europe. Its main field incorporates a simplistic geometric design with flower heads surrounded by a spare flowering climber with traditional diamond motifs, symbolizing protection against the Evil Eye, enclosed within a single plain border. This subtle pattern is executed in an equally soothing color palette of warm brown, light blue and off-white against the ivory background. In addition to being absolutely charming, the rug is also qualitative. It was masterfully hand knotted of the finest wool according to centuries-old weaving techniques due to which it will surely survive many years in perfect condition, pleasing the eyes and feet of its lucky owners.
