Illulian
For over 60 years, luxury rug company Illulian’s distinctive approach to Nepalese hand-knotted rug making has yielded bespoke, handmade rugs and tapestries that prove equally dazzling as wall decor as they do as floor coverings. For private clients, hospitality properties and collectors all over the world, the manufacturer offers six collections of rugs: Design, Palace, Limited Edition, Marina, Kids and Ancient rugs.
Helmed today by Shahnaz Illulian and her sons David and Bendis Ronchetti, Illulian offers different materials, shapes, pile heights, colors and sizes to accommodate a wide range of preferences.
Illulian is based in the fashion district of Milan and consequently finds inspiration from current design trends. There are two Illulian showrooms — one is dedicated to showcasing a breathtaking collection of antique and vintage rugs and tapestries, while the second houses the finest in contemporary furniture and decorative objects.
Modern at heart, Illulian rugs are meticulously crafted. The manufacturer’s textiles are hand-knotted in Nepal by Illulian artisans and see an integration of 50% silk and 50% fine Himalayan wool. All antique rugs are primarily woven with wool, while cotton is a close second. Other materials, including silk and goat hair, are less popular but still crop up frequently in the antique market. Illulian rugs are dyed using vegetable and mineral pigments.
Illulian has been featured in magazines around the world including Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Salon Interior and Marie Claire Maison.
