Size: 4'9" × 8'8" (144 × 264 cm)
Samarkand rugs have been produced since at least the 17th century. Nowadays contemporary Samarkand rugs are just as popular as their antique counterparts, due to the interest of the international rug Community. Traditionally produced using the asymmetric Persian knot, Samarkand rugs are famous for their great quality. Nowadays Samarkand rugs are considered to be a luxury and are widely beloved by carpet connoisseurs. Oriental carpets feature numerous patters and designs, making them an extremely diverse group.
This vintage rug was woven in the mid-20th century, circa 1948. Its complex pattern consists of mainly geometrical shapes, such as circles and lines, with a beautiful floral motif underneath. The design’s frame is heavily decorated by various figures and details. Color palette of this antique rug consists mainly of brown and black, topped with a little bit of creamy beige and orange.
