Pakistani Rug
About the Item
The manufacture of carpets started in Pakistan in the same way as in India.
When the country separated from India, a large part of the carpet weavers migrated to the Pakistani side. Most of them found work in Lahore and Karachi at a time when carpet production was receiving government support in the form of imported quality yarns.
Today, Pakistani rugs are made with Australian wool, which makes these rugs very similar to silk rugs. Their high knot density gives these rugs great durability for a lower price than their Persian equivalents.
The use of the silky wool used is very soft, shiny and gives a lightness to the rugs, so that they can also be hung on the wall.
The details are so extraordinarily fine and elaborate, so sparkling in the light of day, that they seem to be alive.
Typical designs for these rugs include Garden motifs of willows, cypresses, magnificent trees of life, but also intricately decorated central medallions.
Although the precision craftsmanship of these rugs is surprising, they prove to be a better value for money investment than its Persian silk counterparts. These rugs remain more fragile and less resistant than Persian silk rugs. To be gently inhaled in the direction of its velvet.
