Hand knotted in wool, this 3x12 vintage Afghan tribal kilim runner rug, originating circa 1950-1960, is an exciting new addition to the Rug & Kilim collection. On the Design: Originating from Afghanistan, this runner rug is a rich versatile piece reflecting the unique horizontal striped design Afghan kilims. The design features stripes in beige/brown, red, green and blue across the surface. Each stripe is meticulously woven, creating a harmonious pattern that runs throughout the rug. Keen eyes for detail will further appreciate the vertical geometric pattern in muted gray and black, on the right side of the rug, adding a new element to traditional striped patterns of Afghan kilims. The use of stripes in Afghan kilims holds cultural significance and is a distinct characteristic of traditional tribal designs.
