Antique Rug Turkman Tekke Bukhara Main Carpet Djoharian Collection

About the Item

Fine hand-knotted Tekke Turkman Bokhara rug or Turkmen rug Beautiful handknotted Bukhara Turkman Main Carpet. Main carpets are large rugs - regular Bukhara rugs are maximum 7 x 5 ft. The rug is in very good condition, no restoration or repair. One of the most impressing Bukharas I have seen for years. Typical long and narrow size of the old tribal production. Rare antique tribal Turkmen carpet in great condition. These carpets are named "Gentlemens Carpet" since in the late 19th century carpets of this type often decorated libraries in British Houses and Villas. After Dinner it was common that the Gentlemen separated from the Ladies and went into the library to smoke cigars and have a drink. The Turkmen or Turkoman people are settling in villages in Afghanistan an Turkmenistan near the Persian border. Their origin is tribal nomadic, but most members of the tribes have settled in villages in the last decades. Typical for most Turkoman carpets is their geometric design made of wide borders and a repeating inner field with symbols called "Gul" The design of the Gul and the borders tell a lot, which tribe of Turkoman made the rug. This rug was made by the Tekke tribe. Other well known tribes are Ersari, Youmud, Salor, Chodor and Saryk. Each ribe has typical design elements and weaving styles. This rug has a wool with silk-like shine. There are color changes within the filed called "Abrash" which comes from different batches of wool. This results typiocal stripes of different color. Since tribal people usually have smaller portable looms, it is normal that they make small rugs. Most Turkmen rugs found are between 4 x 6 ft and 8 x 11 ft. The condition of this beautiful rug is very good. It has mostly full pile, fringe and selvedge are in good condition. • Beautiful antique rug • All hand made, hand knotted • Pile pure wool, warp and weft wool • Traditional design, very nice rug • Condition: Very good pile, great condition. Just fresh washed, shines like silk • Land of Origin: Turkmenistan All of our rugs, carpets and kilims are original vintage or antique pieces. They are hand washed and ready to use. All rugs are used and have appropriate condition to their age. Stronger signs of use are separately listed.
