19th Century Orange Blue Flower Plant Tibetan Saddle € 1, 500, ca 1870

About the Item

Tibetan wool saddle pad with leather eyelets around 1870. The decoration characterized by stylized elements of flowers and plants is exquisite. On the cobalt blue background, the pomegranate is represented several times, which is considered an emblem of fertility and numerous progeny in China. The refined border combines decidedly more geometric elements with a stylization of the four-leaf clover, a symbol of love, wealth, good luck and success. All these auspicious elements accompanied men in their daily occupations on horseback in the snowy plateaus of Tibet. Measures: CM 113 x 63.
