Magnificently Calm Antique Animal Motif Chinese Rug , Country of Origin / Rug Type: China, Circa Date: 1920. Size: 8 ft x 9 ft 8 in (2.44 m x 2.95 m) This beautiful antique Chinese rug features a lovely animal motif set against a predominately ivory and cream color field.. Located in the center of the antique Oriental rug is a large circle in light and dark blue. Standing regally within the circular medallion, we see a tawny deer with ivory colored antlers on top of its head and small round speckles of white traveling down its neck, back and along the hindquarters. Housing the blue circle is a large cream colored field. This light colored rectangular field is the perfect shade of neutral colors which showcases the more richly colored design elements and allows them to really pop. A single Chinese cranee is featured at each of the four corners of the rectangular field. These cranes are magnificently rendered, their necks appear almost to blend with the color of the antique rug while their brown accentuated feathers and blue colored heads juxtapose beautifully against the cream background color. Behind each Chinese crane is a brown log and a few sparse patches of green grass. Halfway between each bird is a small floating design of a blue, grey and orange potted flower. Surrounding the field, we first come a cross a magnificent running dog / Greek key design guard border. The design itself was rendered in a dark navy blue color that is set against a lighter royal blue while the guard border itself is flanked by a sky blue strand. This play on the different shades of blue adds so much depth to the overall composition of the antique carpet. Past the cream rectangle and blue guard border we come to the main wide border that encompasses this zen like room size rug. This main border is artistically rendered with numerous amorphic geometric patterns and animal designs. To the right of the deer in the center is a white Chinese horse standing on neutral plane, against a cloudless light blue sky. To the left of the deer, two frolicking rabbits that are rendered against the same type of background and the horse. Above and below both the rabbits and the horse are identical images of another bird, which appear to be geese or ducks. At the very top and bottom of the antique animal motif Chinese rug on the left side is an image of a duck swimming, while on the right side is an image of a rooster standing near some flowers. This simplistic antique Animal Motif Chinese rug is magnificent example of the beauty of Chinese art. It is sure to bestow an artistic sense of calm within any traditional or modern interior design.
