71754, antique Chinese oval accent rug with Pictorial Phoenix design. This hand knotted wool antique Chinese oval rug features a pictorial oval medallion floating in the center of an abrashed black field enclosed by a corresponding phoenix border. Phoenixes, known in Mandarin Chinese as Fenghuang, are among the most treasured of Chinese symbols, representing good luck, elegance, Virtue, nobility, honor, integrity and peace. In this antique Chinese rug, phoenixes take center stage as the primary design element. The oval center medallion features a pair of phoenixes arranged in a circle surrounding a delicate cluster of ruyi clouds. In the border, six phoenixes are interspersed among scrolling vines, leafy tendrils and large archaic-style peonies. The bold color palette of lively pinks, oranges and greens set against a Stark black background is both dramatic, yet refined. This tasteful distressed antique Chinese rug would bring a touch of Jazz Age splendor to any space, while its small oval dimensions make it highly versatile. Rendered in variegated shades of black, onyx, charcoal, gray, avocado, pistachio, fern, orange, tangerine, mauve, violet, light yellow, beige, sand, almond, flax, and greige.
