Antique Khotan Carpet

About the Item

Khotan rugs are woven in Sinkiang province in western China, also known as East Turkestan. They are often called Samarkand rugs after the central Asian city where they were traded. Most of the rugs from this weaving area come in long and narrow "gallery" size formats, making this early 20th century example, in a standard room size of 10' 1" x 8' 1" relatively rare.
