Contemporary Greek key design handmade silk & wool rug by Doris Leslie Blau. Size: 6'0" × 9'4" (182 × 284 cm). This Mid-Century Modern carpet has a fascinating structure, which combines both high and low pile. Area rug’s astonishing design is definitely one of its strongest points as it immediately draws the eye. The pattern itself, known as the Greek Key or Meander, is a classical motif often seen on the pottery of ancient Greece and Rome, however, it’s not unheard of to see it on the pieces of art created in another countries. Meander boasts multiple meanings: ancients it stood for infinity, but also unity. Symmetrical lines were highlighted by using shiny fiber. This not only helped to light up the composition, but also brought a new life to otherwise somber background. Mixing together gray and pale teal was a great choice, as they beautifully balance each other out. Brown undertones in the palette warm it up, so geometric pattern carpet can look elegant while not being too cold.
