About the Item

Contemporary zig zag design bamboo silk rug by Doris Leslie Blau. Size: 11'3" × 16'10" (342 × 513 cm). This modern rug draws on oriental weaving tradition while being adopted to contemporary decorating standards. Its entire field is covered in a design of zigzags which stand out from the neutral background both with color and texture. A zigzag is a popular Kilim motif which for centuries has been used on all sorts of antique and vintage rugs, from tribal to urban. The motif is known as Su Yolu and symbolizes running water - a very scarce and precious resource in the desert. This modern rug is rendered in a neutral color palette featuring shades of beige and gray with greenish undertones. The modern rug was carefully hand knotted of high-quality banana silk in accordance with traditional techniques. Thanks to banana silk, the pile of the rug is soft and lustrous. Under the condition of proper maintenance, it will serve many years without any signs of wear.
