About the Item

Focusing on the natural beauty of raw hemp, MoDALA Thangka combines Nepalese spiritualism with creative expression to offer multi-layered design connotations that inspire self-awareness and deep thought. MoDALA Thangka is inspired by Buddhist iconography and is eponymous of Thangka art known as ‘roadmaps to enlightenment’ in spiritual storytelling in Nepal. Like Thangka art, MoDALA Thangka has many moving parts and interchangeable structures, with fringes that depict rough brush strokes found at the edges of the artform. Handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nepal, MoDALA Thangka is first woven as a full rug and is then cut and bound into individual pieces. This is done to dramatically cut down on waste. About the collection MoDALA rugs are designed to grow and adapt to the natural movement of daily life, with modular pieces that can be moved into multiple combinations to suit a range of interior styles and spaces. Each module is a standalone statement that can be used on its own or combined with other modules, fastened together with Nepalese brass clasps. Each module is sold separately. CHACCRA is an international team of creatives who design handcrafted rug and homeware collections that are inspired by Nepalese culture and spiritualism. Through the innovation of traditional crafts, CHACCRA combines ancient craftsmanship with contemporary design to create innovative collections for mindful and energised homes. All our collections are proudly handcrafted in Nepal by local artisans and are respectfully designed to encourage balance, adventure and self expression in modern homes. We choose natural and recyclable fibres and localised small batch production to ensure our collections are responsible, and we encourage sustainable ownership of heirloom pieces that are bought to stand the test of time and changing trends.
