Rare Antique Blue Kansu Oversize Carpet with Mandala Roundel and Infinite Discs

About the Item

A very rare and elegant oversized Kansu carpet, distinguished by a quincuncial pattern composed by a central Mandala roundel and four quartered elements in the corners, overlaid on a dark blue background embellished by an infinite repeat of small discs, the latter extending into the border. This design arrangement emphasizes a three-dimensionality, the discs creating a substrate on which the other elements of the pattern appear as floating.
