Rare Room Size Open Field Antique Tibetan Rug

About the Item

A unique and elegant Tibetan carpet in a large format, most probably commissioned at the time for a special purpose. The neutral open field is framed by a series of borders, the largest of which contains an alternating series of star-like devices. The relatively fine knotting on an all wool foundation is indicative of the earlier phase of Tibetan weaving.
