Vintage Chinese Art Deco Kangshi Rug
A bold, bitonal, beige-pink and black, geometric Art Deco with ‘Shou’ (Good luck) character decorating the field and border. A vintage piece from the 1960s with more abstract and simplified decor. In very good used condition, very little wear.
This rug was professionally washed and it is ready to find a new home.
Dimensions: 137 x 198 cm [54 x 78 in.]
The main source of inspiration for Chinese Kangshi rugs are the symbols of the rich Chinese culture. However, due to China's strong trade relations with Europe in the 19th century, these carpets also feature elements of Baroque, Rococo, Classicism and Imperialism. The original colors were mainly navy blue, black and beige relatively pink, red and teal. Later, a rich palette of pastel colors harmonized with the Western style of interiors developed. The pattern of the carpet is embossed by plastic shearing of felt. This is a unique feature of the Chinese art of carpet making. Thanks to the cut-out pattern, they get a three-dimensional appearance.
