19th Century N. Indian Amritsar Carpet ( 18'10" x 20'10" - 575 x 635 )

About the Item

The rich cranberry lac red field of this impossibly striking Indian carpet has a design of ascending palmettes and lancet curved leavers of varying sizes and complexities in a “book-cover” shaped reserve, within ivory arabesque filled corners. The surrounding border is lightest blue with lotus palmettes and bracketing leaves. He whole design is derived from late 16th century Turkish Ottoman Court rugs, but enlarged to most impressive scale.
