About the Item

Hand knotted in Morocco originating circa 1950-1960, this vintage runner connotes a midcentury tribal Moroccan rug design enjoying a marriage of some of the most celebrated traits of handmade transitional rugs from this period and region. The fabric high pile—often woven from yarns in the clothing and textiles of the tribes—lends a natural, textural complement and arresting quality to the play of these bold and vibrant black, orange, and multi-color hues with the chevron pattern’s naturally dynamic sense of movement. The latter stripes—widely believed to signify running water and rejuvenation in this and adjacent cultural tribal contexts— bring out the inexact and vibrant nature of the colorway variations ideal to the vivid appeal of a Moroccan rug; juxtaposed beautifully with the more forgiving beige-brown and blue hues of the border leading out to the whimsical fringes.
