Fine Antique Moroccan Berber Checkerboard Design Flat-Woven Rug in Earth Tones
About the Item
A very elegant and refined Berber weaving, composed of an honeycomb arrangement of ivory, chocolate brown and black squares contained within horizontal compartments. The extreme fineness of weave and the uniqueness of the design allows us to date this example to the early decades of the 20th century, which is a relatively early vintage for Moroccan rugs. The resulting checkerboard pattern is characterised by its restrained palette, creating a composition of distinct African flavour, and finds its ideal decorative context within Art Deco/Modernist room settings, where it can be employed both as a hanging as well as an accent rug of unparalleled beauty.
