About the Item
Mid-20th century tribal Moroccan handmade wool rug
Size: 6'10" × 8'7" (208 × 261 cm)
Moroccan rugs enjoy worldwide popularity due to their ethnic charm and deep symbolism. Widely sought-after by collectors and aficionados around the globe, these African beauties seem to transcend times and fads by remaining in vogue continuously since the mid-20th century.
The vintage rug before your eyes shows the full potential of Moroccan craft. The main field carries a deeply symbolic design. The all-over diamond pattern as well as motifs representing burdock plant are believed to provide protection against the Evil Eye. Everything is enclosed within a series of borders, each carrying a different traditional pattern, such as diamonds or a zigzag which stands for running water, a very scarce and crucial resource to all tribal weaving cultures. As befits a vintage Moroccan rug from that period, this one flaunts a vivacious color palette featuring sandy beige, light blue and vermilion.
The vintage rug can also boast of refined workmanship. Carefully hand knotted of wool in accordance with centuries-old techniques, the rug has survived until this day in excellent condition. Provided minimum amount of care, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear. It can be the centerpiece of any room, where the elaborate visual message it contains will capture the attention of all and sundry.

- Vintage Moroccan Tribal Orange Wool Floor RugLocated in Detroit, MIThis beautiful vintage handwoven Moroccan Berber rug is circa mid-20th century. It features a symmetrical banded geometric design infused with tribal symbolism in gorgeous shades of orange, red, pink, green, gray, brown and cream with gray fringe to both ends and tufts of decorative side fringe. The timeless design of this unique rug will complement any style of contemporary decor, from mid century modern and southwest to boho and global. Moroccan Berber rugs are handwoven by women artisans from the Berber tribes of the Atlas mountains of Morocco. Berber tribal rugs are one-of-a-kind pieces, woven from naturally dyed and undyed sheep’s wool. Lacking a written language, ancient Berber weavers would incorporate ancestral myths into their textiles using abstract images and symbols. This magic symbolism and a minimalist design give these Berber carpets their unique and timeless appeal.
