Vintage Midcentury Moroccan Transitional Red and Blue Fabric Rug by Rug & Kilim

About the Item

Originating from Morocco in the 1950s, this vintage midcentury Moroccan rug features lesser-known symbols of regional paternity in uniquely bright colorways. Crafted with a distinct background of burgundy red, midnight blue, Abrash pink, purple, and beige colorways, the distinguished pink and blue symbols represent Moroccan male symbols including rows of finely depicted hammers and corks. The abundance of these symbols in this piece, as well as the lack of discernible female imagery typically accompanying male symbols, is unique to this piece and likely indicative of a significant patron in the community.

While the feminine lozenge symbols often dominate these fields in honor of the female weavers, the particular asymmetry of the male geometric to the female symbol...
