Vintage Native American Navajo Area Rug in a Striking Elongated Medallion Design
About the Item
A beautiful Navajo area rug from the SW United States from the first half of the 1900s. The Navajo rug has a striking concentric triple medallion design in yellow, ivory and gray set on a silver gray background with a brown and ivory border framing the center design. Although the rug can be used on the floor, it would bring a wonderful design if displayed on the wall. The Navajo rug was used as a tapestry wall art and has a display stripe hand stitched to the back to enable display on the wall using a tapestry rod if desired. It has minimal wear.
Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
