About the Item
Vintage Native American Navajo Rug in a Chinle revival pattern in earth tone colors including yellow, brown, black, ivory, and gray. The vintage Navajo rug is woven of native hand-spun wool in a Chinle revival pattern. This style of Navajo Regional Rugs began in the 1920s at Chinle, Arizona. A classic banded Chinle design. The Chinle Trading Post was established in the early 1880s and is located in the Canyon de Chelly area, of northeastern Arizona. Beautiful Navajo rug with an alternating light yellow and cream colors with repeating geometric pattern design.
Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
