Vintage American Navajo Storm Dancer Pattern in Ivory, Gray, Brown, Pumpkin

About the Item

Vintage Native American Navajo rug in a Storm Warrior pattern in gray, brown, ivory, Pink, and Brown Colors. The Navajo rug was hand-woven in the SW United States by Geraldine Johnson the matriarch of the famous Johnson weaving clan circa the 1920-1930. This rug has a very unique and wonderful color combination including gray, brown and ivory. The rug is very finely woven. The storm pattern composition is quite beautiful and the water bugs are quite nice. Overall it is an outstanding example of fine Navajo weaving art from one of the most renowned Navajo weaving families. Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers usually try to use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings. Provenance: The Navajo rug was woven by Geraldine Johnson, the matriarch of the Johnson clan, one of the most renowned Navajo weaving families, woven circa the 1930s.
