73477, late 19th century antique Persian Sarouk Farahan Rug, 09'00 x 13'02. The architectural elements of naturalistic forms combined with Arts & Crafts style, this hand knotted wool late 19th century antique Persian Farahan rug astounds with its beauty and draws inspiration from William Morris. It features a red and midnight navy blue cusped central medallion anchored with palmette pendants at either end. The rustic red field is covered with an all-over botanical pattern composed of serrated leaves, roundel rosettes, hyacinth, floral sprigs, and cypress trees. A large-scale peacock graces each corner spandrel. Immersed in Persian history, the peacock is seen as a guardian to royalty and is often seen in the engravings upon the thrones of Persian royalty. Peacocks represent renewal, holiness, nobility, integrity and beauty when we endeavor to show our true colors. It is enclosed with a navy blue botanical border flanked with double inner and outer double floral meander guard bands. The overall composition is distinctly reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts movement carpet designs of late 19th and early 20th century, England. The Arts & Crafts movement celebrated craftsmanship and simple, informal folk styles of decoration. Leading designers of the movement, such as William Morris and C.F.A.
