Antique 1900s Persian Meeshan Malayer Rug, Garden Design, 8' x 16'
About the Item
This Persian Meeshan Malayer carpet created, circa 1900 consists of a cotton warp, wool weft, hand-knotted wool pile and organic vegetable dyes. Its vivid greens, blues and reds are beautifully balanced and set off by a unique undyed camel wool border. Designated as a "Meeshan" Malayer, its weave is exceptional and extremely fine. Its size is indicative of a "shah neshin," or "king's room" carpet, created as a special order for one of the most important rooms of the house. It measures 8'4" x 16'5" and is in excellent antique condition.
