Antique Persian Camel Hair Bakshaish Area Rug 4'6x6'6

About the Item

Antique Persian Camel Hair Bakshaish Area rug, 4'6 X 6'6. Although there is no town of Bakshaish in the Heriz weaving area, the term has been applied to those antique rugs & carpets from the later 19th century with generally allover patterns, mellow colors and semi-geometric drawing. The genre transitioned into the characteristic Heriz style by about 1900 and most real Bakshaish carpets are truly antique. Colors: charcoal/camel/taupe/pink/blue

  • Antique Persian Bakshaish Rug
    Located in New York, NY
An early 20th century Persian Bakshaish Rug containing a spiraling all-over design on an orange-colored ground with stunning predominant blue and camel accents. 7'9'' x 9'8'' Bakshaish weavers employed both soft orange and soft blue accents for the base color of the field, with the use of ivory or camelhair grouns being particularly rare and beloved. Exceptional blues are a hallmark of these antique Bakshaish rugs with this being a fine example. Muted salmons, rich corals, greens and yellow accents can also be found e. Antique Bakshaish carpets have a structure similar to others of the Heriz group, although their weave is usually somewhat finer and patterns are more tribal. There are no so many authentic Bakshaishs around today as they are one of the more sought after decorative and collectible persian rugs.

  • Zabihi Collection Camel Field Persian Bakshaish Rug
    Located in New York, NY
Camel field 19th century Persian Bakshaish rug featuring an all-over motif design on a camel field surrounded by multiple borders. 7'7'' x 9'4'' Bakshaish carpets are some of the most highly sought after and elite carpets produced in the 19th century, the weaving region being well known for producing visually striking adaptions of traditional Persian geometric styles and tribal patterns. This exquisite example showcases the artistic ingenuity and geometric patterning that set a highly collectible Bakshaish carpet apart from the rest, displaying a boldly done freehand version of the traditional “Tree of Life” motif. The all-over geometric interpretation of the “Tree of Life” design with freehand drawing of the field’s pattern hides many surprises that will appear on closer inspection, much to the delight of art connoisseurs. The bright color palate create a visually pleasing balance and continuity that elevates the artistic impact of the rug. Antique Bakshaish carpets such as this one are extremely hard to find, making this one-of-a-kind room size piece highly desirable, particularly given that is still in very good condition. Bakshaish rugs of this caliber are often used strategically as horizontal art...
