This hand knotted wool distressed antique Persian Karaja Heriz rug with Mid-Century Modern style features a latch-hook bereket amulet flanked by two square cruciform medallions surrounded by Ram's horns, Hands on Hips (elibelinde), eight-pointed stars, rosettes, and hooked motifs. The all-over geometric pattern fills the abrashed ink blue field and is framed by a thin serrated edge inner saw-tooth guard band. The Elibelinde motif, also known as the 'hands on hips' or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket combines the male and female motifs, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips, into one design with a diamond in the centre. The distressed antique Persian rug is framed with a turtle-and-vine scroll border, flanked by inner and outer Meander guard borders.
