Magnificent Grayish Background Antique Sultanabad Persian Rug 49388, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Persian Rug, Circa Date: 1900’s – This breathtaking antique Persian Sultanabad rug features the angular, less curve linear, patterns representative of the style. The colors in this piece are still rich despite originating from around the turn of the last century. This jaw dropping antique Persian rug features geometric and tribal interpretations of flowers, leaves, and vines. In the main field, the magnificent soft grey’ish color background provides ample juxtaposition to the more vibrant and warmer colors of the foreground’s design elements. The center has a three by three rows of larger diamond designed. Each one of these diamond motifs encases flowers that are encapsulated in leafy, flowering vines. The center most element of these diamonds, exhibits the warmest color while the surrounding eight remain paler. Between these diamond design elements, more flora crisscrosses across the antique rug, reminiscent of the fractal patterns of snowflakes. While the specific pattern of this beautiful antique Persian Sultanabad rug changes, rectilinear flora remains featured in all borders which frame this magnificent work of art in the most perfect and complimentary way possible. The innermost border thinly runs around the center panel with a warmer, somewhat deeper background of rusty red color tones. Next is a medium width minor border. This smaller size guard border features a pale neutral background color as well as another single line of pattern, but with greater variation of color. Next we come to the main border central. A primitive yet open design pattern of various stylized flora, connected as though cursive had an affinity for right angles, sits on a light, neutral color. This main border is wrapped by another of the medium and finally the thin, dark border at the outermost. All borders contain unresolved corner articulations. This is one of the most decorative rugs available anywhere. The soft coloration and tribal design combine in the most perfect and artistic way. This combination of color and design elevate this from being a merely pretty antique Oriental rug to the class of textile art that is sure to compliment pretty much any interior design and decorating aesthetic.
