A magnificent blue oversized fine antique Persian Sarouk Farahan rug, country of origin / rug type: antique Persian rugs, date: circa late 19th century. Size: 13 ft 4 in x 23 ft 10 in (4.06 m x 7.26 m) This magnificent, intricate floral antique Persian rug from the late 19th century was produced in west central Iran. Sarouk is a village located about 25 miles north of Arak, which is also known as Sultanabad. It was one of the most important carpet weaving regions of the late 19th century. It is also the home of one of the most famous carpet designs, Farahan. The antique rugs that are considered to the best examples from Sarouk, are refereed to as Persian Farahan rugs. The antique Persian Sarouk Farahan rugs were designed compete directly with those produced in Kashan. These magnificent and fine rugs tend to boast a medallion design and intricate floral patterns scattered throughout. This work has a defined geometric pattern and a formal structure that gives it balance. It was also exceptionally good placement of colors which achieve contrast and stability throughout the piece. This antique Persian Farahan carpet is a classic example of what we would expect to see in some of the best antique Oriental rugs from this area.
