Antique 1870s Persian Tabriz Rug Woven by Order of Prince Shahrukh Mirza, 13x21
About the Item
This Persian Tabriz carpet was woven by the order of Prince Shahrukh Mirza circa 1870, as stated by the signature in the carpet's border. It consists of a cotton warp and thread, hand-knotted pure wool pile and natural vegetable dyes. The level of detail is extraordinary, highlighted further by the carpet's rich gold, navy and red tones, and balanced by its soft pinks, greens and light blues. It features a Garden of Eden design with many symbolic motifs including doves, peacocks, leopards, foxes, horses, flowers and cypress trees. Interestingly, the sister of this carpet was illustrated in the book "Pearl of Persia," by Wilfrid Jasper Walter Blunt. The size is 13'2" x 20'8", and it is in great antique condition.
Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.

It is an exceptionally Fine example from the master artist and weaver Haji Jalili, and was crafted using his own signature wool and dyes. While the coloration may look simple upon first glance, it actually consists of a complex combination of earth tones based on the rule of seven. That is, there are seven different shades of brown, seven of beige, seven of pale green, and so on. It is extremely challenging for a weaver to work with colors that are so similar and yet still be able to distinguish among them, especially while working with such fine woolen yarns. The resulting piece is one of amazing dimension and timeless beauty. The tree of life illustration, amid Cyprus...Category
