Breathtaking antique Persian Tabriz rug, origin: Persia, circa 1920. Size: 13 ft x 17 ft 4 in (3.96 m x 5.28 m)
This majestic antique Persian Tabriz carpet features two iconic regional patterns that represent the height of artistry, creativity and technical skill. The opulent palace-sized field contains an endless mesh of repeating small-scale Herati motifs, which are bounded by impressive large-scale turtle-and-vinescroll borders that have graceful lines and stunning embellishments. The robust walnut-tone field is adorned with a plethora of soft earthy decorations that produce a dazzling kaleidoscopic effect. Multiple sets of strap work guard bands and sumptuous tea-stain main borders contrast the small-scale decorations featured within the field and give the composition a pleasant balance between detail and scale. The reciprocating turtle motifs have bold colors, lavish decorations and graceful lines in keeping with the fluid curvilinear composition. Grand main borders with bold decorations are expertly juxtaposed against the monumental field, which contains a stunning assortment of minute decorations.
