In full bloom, this warm and transitional Persian Heriz Serapi carpet measures exactly 9' x 12' and belongs to the Orley Shabahang Formal Collection. Typical of Serapi and Heriz carpets, the overall composition reflects a rural interpretation of a formal Persian design, a Persian flower garden. This design utilizes warm rose red, indigo, taupe, and light blue wool to detail the tribal-stylized paisley and butterfly motifs. Additional tribal and transitional motifs fill the interior field and are encompassed by an elaborate butterfly border. What truly separates this Heriz Serapi carpet comes down to its hand-knotted pile and the organic process utilized in its weaving. Orley Shabahang continues the traditional weaving process by working with weavers, house to house, village to village, to preserve the art of weaving as a cottage industry and implement these traditional methods to create the heirlooms of the future.
