About the Item

Handwoven in wool originating from Persia between 1950-1960, this vintage midcentury Persian Kilim runner is identified as a Kalat (Qalat) rug, named for the titular region and the nomadic tribal weavers of this family of Turkeman (Turkoman) rug production—especially renowned for their distinct geometry and celebrated colorway. This particular Persian runner marries an abrashed solid and striped design with duality of warmth and rich color, seen alternating in the length in this piece creating a very appealing sense of movement through the juxtaposition of pattern and the same fusion of beige brown and red colorway hues thereof. Further unique to this piece is the subtle, textural embroidery seen in the patterned stripes, lending a tactile complement to the Classic traditional motifs, including references to the arrow/fetter symbol widely believed to signify familial union, marriage, and an everlasting bond sought after by the weavers; an insightful subtext complementing the cultured, historic look this item enjoys.
