About the Item

Vintage Persian Ardebil room size carpet from the mid 1900s with a “signature Ardebil” geometric design.. The ancient city of Ardebil is located on Northeast of the Azerbaijan province on the west side of the Caspian Sea and South of the Caucasus mountains. The Ardebil carpet comes with an ivory color field with a tribal geometric design of various birds and shapes throughout. The central medallion in brick color adds a beautiful accent. The classic geometric design borders on pale blue, brown and brick colors. The Ardebil rugs are well known and appreciated for their simple geometric design and the use of animal forms throughout the field.     A room size hand-knotted Persian Nain Habibian from the 3rd quarter of the 1900s. The rug is very finely woven with a wool pile and a cotton foundation and silk highlights that shimmer under light. The vibrancy of the silk is unbelievable especially in the beautiful central medallion which gives the rug a sense of three dimensionality. The rug has a very high knot density. This Nain has a beautiful floral design set in an ivory color field with an ivory color border. The design colors in the field include French blue, navy blue, red, brown, and caramel.     A vintage Persian Qum in an all over paisleys and meandering vines pattern set on a rich red background from the second quarter of the 1900s. The rug has an allover design of wavering vines and paisley forms set in a rich red color field. The vines have a pale blue background color and the paisley forms are in pink, red, and pale blue. The border in this Qum rug has an ivory color background with vines design. Looking at the rug, its design is reminiscent of the Kerman rugs that were woven in the 16th century, especially those of Alice de Rothschild’s Vase Carpet Trio that were recently auctioned at Christie’s.
