Vintage Qashqai Shiraz Carpet
About the Item
The Qashqai are a tribal federation living in southwestern Persia/Iran along the Zagros Mountains, mostly in the Fars and Khuzestan Provinces. The women in this tribe have long had a reputation of being both skilled and prolific weavers. Much of the Qashqai tribe has settled in cities, towns, and villages, and their goods are often sold in Shiraz, the capital city of the Fars province. Their rugs are woven in primary colors with glossy wool, usually in geometric or stylized floral patterns. One distinguishing characteristic of these rugs is the striped “barber’s pole” single-cord selvedge or edge finish. This carpet has a refined interpretation of an overall Herati pattern on a madder field within an aqua palmette and leafy vine border. 9' 3" x 6' 6"

- Vintage Persian Taba Tabriz CarpetLocated in Closter, NJThe city of Tabriz in northwest Persia is acknowledged as central to the revival of the carpet industry in the late 19th Century. Merchants from this area were well aware of the demand for Middle Eastern decorative objects from the west, and the location of this city was convenient for exporting items to both Europe and America. The carpet-producing industry here was organized primarily in factories ranging in size from between ten and one hundred looms. The quality of these carpets is considered to be among the best, with the usage of wool indigenous to this high-altitude region, woven in symmetrical knots on a cotton foundation. The designs of these carpets are both accomplished and eclectic, as traditional patterns from other weaving regions are often utilized and presented in refined manners with pleasing color palettes. The Taba Tabriz...Category
