Antique Karabagh Traditional Rug in Red, and Beige Geometric by Rug & Kilim

About the Item

Originating from Russia in 1900, this antique traditional Karabagh wool rug employs a focused, ornate colorway combination with a lesser-known variation of the Herati pattern. Sometimes referred to as the fish pattern, the repetitious all-over field design portrays a series of focal points within four lancet leaves (nicknamed fish for their similarities) in a less vectored, more gentle fashion than many Herati pieces enjoy. Emboldened by a luminous crimson red background, the golden-beige colorways of the field are reflected in the mirrored inner and guard borders, drawing emphasis to the unique black middle border with floral emblems resembling bamboo. Marrying finesse and gentility, the rug has a very mesmeric and dimensional look, though distinct among Herati pieces for definition in its spaciousness without focusing so heavily on finely woven outlines.
