About the Item

It’s a traditional Kazak design featuring rustic-colored medallion details on a brown center field. It’s a lovely piece to showcase in contemporary and rustic spaces. Kazak weaving, unlike most Persian and Oriental rugs, are not associated with specific tribes or people. Different weavers from the Caucasus region contributed to the development of this rug design, particularly the women from various communities in the area. Kazak rugs also differed from traditional Caucasian carpets as they were considered more modern. The weavers also used rich colored dyes such as deep red and indigo as opposed to the blacks and grays commonly used.

In the Yuan ch'ao pi-shih, Quatrain 205, it is recorded that later in life Cinggis Qahan said "Let Bo'orcu govern the ten thousand of the right hand which take the Altai as pillow."
