About the Item

Hand knotted in wool originating from Russia between 1890-1900, this antique Shirvan rug enjoys an uncommon green background with notes of blue in the field, a rare but natural complement to the classic beige-brown and rich, burnt red traditional colorway pallet. The illusion of soothing repetition leads the eye to admire the equally distinct variety of geometric patterns in the field rows, some noteworthy symbols including the cross and star (widely believed in varied cultural interpretations to signify themes of protections and good fortune respectively).
