Judith Johansson "Spice Hall" flat weave, Signed JJ. Sweden 1960's measures- 108" x 88" Designed in 1961. "Spice Hall" is a hand woven flat-weave rug with a field of shapes in light blues, soft greens and hints of pink and purple on a heather-ed blue background. Designed by Judith Johansson, circa 1961. Judith Johansson has described the background to the pattern as follows: The color mood when May Day changes to the "blue hour" at the time of the leaves splitting at the vantage point south of Knäred, Sweden. Carpet with the pattern has been exhibited i.a. in Stockholm at NK in 1972 and 1974, at Hallands Museum in 1985 and Forum Kulturcentrum Peine Tyskland in 1993." Judith Johansson is a widely collected and renowned Swedish textile designer known for her innovative use of color and pattern in her designs. With a background in fine arts and textile design, Johansson's work is characterized by bold, graphic elements that draw on traditional Swedish motifs and materials.
