Brown Field Karabagh Corridor Gallery Size Rug

About the Item

A rare size early 20th century gallery Karabagh rug in predominant soft browns and terracotta accents. Measures: 6'8" x 19'7" The name Karabagh translates to “Black Garden” in English, and it is interesting that many of the rugs from the area have black/brown fields or borders decorated with flowers. Karabagh is primarily known for the production of geometrically designed rugs, but weavers also made many rugs in floral patterns with European influence, following the 19th century colonial expansion into the region. Because of the resemblance of colors and styles some of the Karabagh rugs are mistaken as Kazaks. The most common errors are the Cloudband and so called Eagle or Adler Kazaks. These rugs were actually made in the Chelarberd district of Karabagh.
