78495 Vintage Swedish Rollakan Rug by Judith Johansson, 05'07 x 07'11.
With its Scandinavian Modern style, incredible detail and texture, this handwoven wool vintage Swedish rollakan rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The eye-catching geometric design and atmospheric colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly unique look. An allover grid-like pattern made up of squares and cubes work in sequence cultivating a beautiful juxtaposition among the design. This rollakan rug is named Sommarnatt and was designed by Judith Johansson in 1955. Emanating summer nights in Sweden, the ethereal backdrop and the expert use of shading gives the piece a painterly quality reminiscent of watercolors and gouaches. The use of abrash is deliberate; intended to capture nature's capriciousness in the same way stars cast shadows.?
Rendered in variegated shades of teal, blue, green, taupe, mauve, and lime with other accent colors.
Designed by Judith Johansson in 1955.
